John Tossberg received a Bachelor of Science in biology from Bates College and a Master of Science from Iowa State University, where he studied equine infectious anemia virus. For the last 15 years, John has worked at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, first developing RNA-based diagnostic tests for autoimmune diseases and most recently studying how endogenous Alu RNAs interact with the immune system. Currently, he is investigating immunologically active Alu RNAs as a possible therapeutic.
